The Fallout: Fashion Halts Ad Spending on Facebook (Written For DBMIF!)

At first glance, the relationship between fashion and Facebook isn’t glaringly obvious. However, give it an extra thought and you’ll realize fashion brands rely heavily on Facebook - and its powerful portfolio of social media platforms - to spend its advertising dollars and reach consumers all over the world. However, given Facebook’s objective failure to control the spread of misinformation on its platforms, is the decision to continue giving the company billions of dollars in profit for ads a wrong one? Some fashion and luxury brands seem to think so.



This is an excerpt of a case study I wrote for Data, But Make it Fashion, a startup out of Harvard that explores the intersection between technology and high-fashion. As an intern, I research and create content related to fashion and tech + study how data can be used to forecast trends and help luxury companies adapt to the digital stage.
