An inside look into the handmade processes behind our fave fashion pieces remind us that fashion is, at the end of the day, an art. A brand that shows their behind-the-scenes is a brand that understands this.

Hi lovelies! I was, as always, browsing latin fashion and in the hunt for new discoveries when I stumbled upon one of my favorite brands' IG story: a kiln burning & materials being melted into shapes. The shapes turning into jewelry pieces I recognized. This sneak peak served as a reminder of the hard work that goes into every single handmade piece that's created with care, skill, and technique.

Here it is: @DS_DanielaSalcedo in all its creative glory. There's something fascinating about the process behind her work: her workshop, as she calls it, radiates creativity and style as her statement jewelry designs come to life with detailed shapes and vibrant tints.

Here's a rundown of DS's "Workshop o'Clock":

It's amazing that the masters in jewelry-making or palm-weaving are so skilled because their craft has been passed down generation to generation. They know their craft and, when brands remind us of this, we know their art more intimately. And as consumers, this makes the pieces we buy infinitely more special.

Those stories behind our favorite fashion items are usually what makes them so special. Every time my costeña (/noun/: from the Colombian coast) grandma lends me a cute woven bag she will recount the exact place she bought it, who she bought it from, and the story behind it, recounting "This one I bought from a Wayuu woman who spent x amount of days making it - isn't it so detailed?" Yes grandma, it is. Witnessing the indigenous women working on her woven bag infused the piece with a level of context & meaning that withstands the test of time. This is why at TLL, we think it's extremely cool when brands give their customers an inside look at what goes into their items. This transparency is something we encourage even more today in the face of questions surrounding #sustainablefashion. Part of shopping sustainably is knowing who makes your clothes and how they are treated & compensated.

We encourage latin brands, big or small, to share the highlights of what they sell: the hours of work and the people who make it possible make the pieces a lot more powerful - and we all love to wear powerful fashion.

We love that latin fashion is increasingly embracing their behind-the-scenes stories and sharing them with their followers. In fact, we've rounded up some more #latinflair behind your favorite products:

Pura Utz & their "pure ambience from a bead work day"

As if this wasn't enough to convince you to buy Pura Utz #4ever, just read the statement they issue next to every piece:

100% handmade - all beadwork made by the women in Guatemala... Truly a product of connection because we are connecting different crafts and women across continents. To get a little sense of the ambience in Guatemala check out this video we made.
We pay three times as much as in the markets because we want to reach beyond the principles of fair trade, because our idea and vision is for the women to feel proud and to grow their self worth by being able to provide for themselves and invest in their future.

As consumers, we are PROUD to say we wear Pura Utz - and you bet that we'll tell this amazing behind-the-scenes story when someone asks us about our gorgeous, beaded banana necklace.

That's it for today lovelies - I hope that this helps you & your latin brands grow and connect even more to your customers! Until next time x

With love,

Isa
