Hello lovely TLL readers!
Welcome to Latin Hour, a series where you'll find quick snapshots of emerging latin american designers and brands that I love. Being a latin gal myself, I have recently found myself exploring latin american fashion and incorporating it into my wardrobe more and more. Not only do I feel connected to my roots, but I also love what these small brands embody for women like myself. Their vibrant colors, unexpected silhouettes, and fusion of textiles highlights femininity, boldness, and authenticity. World-renowned luxury brands are in every fashion lover's wish list, as classic staples and the brand names are a huge pull. But in exploring latin american style, I have found talent that the rest of the world deserves to know, enjoy, and love. These quick Latin Hour snapshot series will show you my (and soon, your) latest obsessions ♡.
So, PRINTS.
Colombian fashion week (aka Colombiamoda) was held this summer in Medellin, Colombia, and as always it brought a fresh, exciting new look into the latest trends and style inspiration we need in our lives! My favorite catwalk craze? Prints. Fun, unconventional, eye-catching themes that can hardly go unnoticed.
While we saw a ton of pretty, playful fabrics on the runway this year, it's important to emphasize the country's print pioneer: Johanna Ortiz. Ortiz has become a household name even among the ranks of New York, Paris, and Milan's finest, and boasts recognized figures as her clientele (like Moda Operandi's Santo Domingo). She founded her brand in 2001 and along the way discovered a true, tropical style that incorporates Colombia's spirit through vibrant colors, emblazoning the country's heritage and more importantly, acting as an international figure representing latin talent. Ortiz's brand is based in Cali, Colombia, but her global vision has taken her around the world, most notably to Paris Fashion Week. She's all about having fun with fashion, and the prints from her SS18, F18, SS19 and newly-released F19 collections are a proof of that.

It seems that Colombian brands are definitely following in her footsteps, making fashion week a platform for the craziest print combinations. Designers are having fun with fashion, and more importantly, they're asking us fashion lovers to do so as well.
Here are just some of my favorite designers + brands that have embraced this fun fashion wave, especially curated by your latin lookbook:
1. Andrés Otálora

2. Cala de La Cruz

3. Silvia Tcherassi

4. Eugenia Fernandez

One word: prints.
What do you think of this trend? Are you loving the zoo-y vibe or will you stick to more classic, monochrome looks?
xx
With love,
Isabel
